The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Art and Art History has announced two exhibitions featuring the work of graduating seniors in the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program.

The exhibitions, titled “because’’ and “Assigned Significance,’’ will continue through Dec. 12 at UT Tyler’s Meadows Gallery and Fine Arts Complex Gallery, respectively. A mix of paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculptures and mixed media are presented.

Featured artists include:

‘because’

Laura Ashley-Martin is a figurative artist whose work defines what it is to be a mother. Her oil paintings and charcoal drawings capture the sublimity of motherhood within an intimate setting.

Audrey Caton is a naturalistic artist who paints and draws large-scale images of roses. Her current body of work tells the story of how she overcame being an obsessive perfectionist.

Cory Reeves creates works using a mix of ink, acrylic, watercolor and gouache on paper. He creates satirical works with everyday, mundane scenarios and depicts them in an absurd manner.

Erick Rodriguez uses graphite on 19-by-24-inch paper to depict animals through abstraction to make the mundane appear unfamiliar. The intent is to offer the viewer an opportunity to reflect on what is lost when experiences depreciate into common occurrence through repeated exposure.

Jamin Shepherd works in hand-built ceramics and metal sculpture with deliberate usage of colors and shapes to invite wonder and encourage creativity.

 ‘Assigned Significance’

Hannah Branscum creates large-scale oil paintings that are abstracted images of animals or items, which represent verses from the Bible and her relationship with God. Her style reflects the appearance of stained-glass windows and small precious stones in a graphic manner.

Sherra Reid creates small oil paintings that celebrate personal objects and the memories and people to which they are connected. Through the use of both realism and abstraction, she paints engaging compositions that pay tribute to the objects she collects.

Kelly Waller is a multimedia artist who combines fabric and old papers. Her work deals with the recontextualization of past information and represents her formal decisions at the time.

All exhibitions are open to the public 8 a.m.—5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special request.
