The University of Texas at Tyler improved the fall-to-spring retention rates of first-time-in-college students for the second year in a row, bringing back 94 percent of students this spring. This is up 13 points over the 2018 rate of 81 percent.

Spring enrollment on the official University census date was 9,231. Overall retention for the entire University from fall 2019’s official census date was 94 percent. The spring census date was Jan. 27.

“Our faculty are focused on student success, and we can see their efforts paying off as students are sticking with the rigorous academic programs through a crucial time in their undergraduate college experience,” said UT Tyler provost Amir Mirmiran.

Student success is one of the pillars of UT Tyler’s strategic plan, and the University has implemented several retention efforts to help assure students persevere.

“Identifying and addressing the issues – whether they are academic, financial or personal – that make students drop out early is critical to retention,” said Ona Tolliver, vice president for student success. “I’m pleased with all the teams across the University who are working together to achieve this great result.”
