UT Tyler Dean Elected to National Engineering Council

The University of Texas at Tyler announced today that Dr. Javier Kypuros, dean of the UT Tyler College of Engineering, has been elected to the Engineering Deans Council of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

Kypuros will serve a two-year appointment on the council, which is the leadership organization of engineering deans nationwide. He is the first dean to hold this appointment is the history of the college.

“With his excellent leadership skills and knowledge, I am confident Dean Kypuros will represent UT Tyler extremely well,” said Dr. Amir Mirmiran, UT Tyler provost and vice president for academic affairs.

The 10-member council provides vision and leadership on engineering education, research and engagement while promoting diversity and inclusiveness. Currently, the council has about 350 members, representing over 90 percent of all US engineering deans.

“I am incredibly honored to have this opportunity to serve the ASEE and help make decisions that affect engineering education on the national level,” said Kypuros, who came to the University in 2017.

The UT Tyler Ronald D. Brazzel Endowed Professor of Engineering, Kypuros leads a college with programs in Tyler and Houston.

He has been awarded millions in research from industry and federals sources, and in 2014, he earned the prestigious UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award, which recognizes outstanding teaching at the undergraduate level. Kypuros also has authored dozens of technical manuscripts as well as a textbook.

He holds mechanical engineering degrees from Princeton University and UT Austin.
