Terry Britt to Advise UT Tyler Student Media

The University of Texas at Tyler announced today that Dr. Terry L. Britt, assistant professor of communication, has been named interim faculty adviser for the Patriot Talon student publication.

Britt will provide professional guidance, training and support to Talon editors and staff.

Dr. Britt joined the UT Tyler Department of Communication in 2019. He is a 2013 graduate of UT Tyler with a bachelor’s degree in English. He also holds a master’s degree in journalism from UT Austin and a doctorate in journalism from the University of Missouri.

He is also a Patriot Talon alumnus, having served as its news editor in 2012-13.

“We are happy Dr. Britt agreed to step in and serve as interim faculty adviser for The University of Texas at Tyler Patriot Talon Media,” said Dr. Marsha Matthews, Department of Communication interim chair. “He brings not only his professional experience and expertise to the Talon, but also great enthusiasm for the opportunity to work with and mentor the next generation of journalists.”

Britt spent nearly 30 years in the newspaper industry and, later, digital journalism for various daily and weekly newspapers throughout Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee.
