UT Tyler Students Win Awards at Regional Honors Conference

Two students in The University of Texas at Tyler Honors Program received awards at the 2022 Great Plains Honors Council Conference.

The regional conference highlighted the research of students from colleges and universities in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Nebraska.

Jacob Williams of Tyler, a junior history major, received the prestigious Dennis Boe Award for outstanding scholarly writing. His award-winning paper, “Natura Romam Deleverat (Nature Had Destroyed Rome),’’ uses environmental history to explore the fall of Constantinople in 1453. Williams’ faculty mentors are history professors Edward Tabri, PhD, and Colin Snider, PhD.

Joseph Hudson of Bullard, a senior biology major, received the John Britt Poster Award for Professional Studies for his poster, “Accessibility of Walking and Biking as Forms of Exercise in Harris County, Texas, USA.’’ His faculty mentor is Wycliffe Njororai, PhD, professor of health and kinesiology.
