Lindale Resident Recognized at National Technology Competition

The University of Texas at Tyler announced that Andrew Valarde of Lindale was recognized at the 2022 Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering Conference. Valarde, a freshman industrial technology major, competed in the “Technology IQ Challenge” competition and went on to reach the semifinals, besting over 50 students nationwide.

“Technology IQ Challenge” is a Jeopardy-style game where student participants answer 10-, 20- or 30-point questions. Categories include quality, manufacturing, electronics, drafting, lean management, energy and safety as well as two “grab bag” categories featuring questions pertaining to technology, management and applied engineering.

“The competition is designed to test the students’ knowledge that they have gained in their respective programs and classes, hence, the numerous choices of categories,” said Dr. Heshium Lawrence, UT Tyler Soules College of Business interim associate dean and ATMAE student chapter faculty adviser. “We are extremely proud of Andrew, and he has a tremendous future here at UT Tyler.”

Schools participating in this year’s competition included Mississippi State University, Millersville University and East Carolina University, among others.

Valarde will graduate in May 2025, with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology.
