The University of Texas at Tyler has been granted a reaffirmation of accreditation through 2030 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

“This is wonderful news, and I must thank the SACSCOC Board of Trustees, UT Tyler’s reaffirmation team and our faculty and staff,” said UT Tyler President Kirk A. Calhoun, MD, FACP. “This affirms UT Tyler’s academic value for each and every one of our current and future students.”

Every 10 years, each SACSCOC accredited institution must undergo a review to demonstrate compliance with all 14 sections of the accrediting body’s Core Requirements and Principles of Accreditation. UT Tyler’s reaffirmation is without sanctions or major findings.

Dr. Lou Ann Berman, associate provost for assessment and institutional effectiveness, led the university’s reaffirmation efforts.

“We certainly appreciate Dr. Berman’s great work in guiding the university through the rigorous reaffirmation process, and we must commend our faculty and staff for maintaining the highest level of academic integrity. It is important that we regularly examine our procedures so that we continue to improve and deliver on our promise to educate our students with excellence,” said Dr. Amir Mirmiran, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost.

UT Tyler merged with the UT Health Science Center at Tyler in 2021 requiring an adjustment to the university’s mission, which is included in this accreditation reaffirmation.

With a mission to improve educational and healthcare outcomes for East Texas and beyond, UT Tyler offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate programs to 10,000 students. UT Tyler recently merged with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler (now known as UT Tyler Health Science Center). Through its alignment with UT Tyler Health Science Center (HSC) and UT Health East Texas, UT Tyler has unified these entities to serve Texas with quality education, cutting-edge research and excellent patient care. Classified by Carnegie as a doctoral research institution and by U.S. News & World Report as a national university, UT Tyler has campuses in Tyler, Longview, Palestine and Houston.
