Complimenting an Employee

If an employee has done an exceptional job and you want to say thanks or acknowledge them, we would appreciate hearing from you.  You may call or visit the School of Nursing during regular business hours and ask to speak to the employee's supervisor.  You can also email or send a letter to the addresses below, outlining the circumstances of how you were helped or impressed by the employee.  Please try to obtain the name of the employee(s) when providing us with this information.

After the compliment is received it will be reviewed by the Dean of the School of Nursing and forwarded to the employee and the employee's supervisor for inclusion in the employee's annual review.  Depending on the circumstances, the employee could receive a letter of recognition, or an award presented by the Dean.  This type of recognition is greatly appreciated by the School of Nursing.

Registering a Complaint

We encourage you to let us know if you have a negative experience with any School of Nursing employee.  Each legitimate complaint is taken seriously and handled with the utmost professionalism.

If you have a complaint, you should first call the department at 903-566-7320 and ask to speak with the involved employee's supervisor.  If the employee's supervisor is unavailable, you may be forwarded to the next supervisor in the chain of command.  It may be the issue can be resolved or addressed via conversation.  If the issue is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may file a formal, written complaint here.

When filing a complaint, it is important that you provide the name of the employee (if known), the date and approximate time of the incident, any available witness names, and the circumstances outlining any wrongdoing committed by the employee.  We ask that complaints involving serious misconduct be placed in writing and that contact information for the person filing the complaint be included.  If there are valid reasons this cannot be done, we will try to make other arrangements.  In this circumstance, please call the Dean's office at 903-566-7090.

If the complaint is sustained (found to be true) the employee will receive the appropriate training or disciplinary action.  These actions are counseling, oral reprimand, written reprimand, suspension, demotion, or termination.

If the complaint is not supported by sufficient evidence the complaint will not be sustained.  If the complaint is found to be false or not factual the disposition will be unfounded.  If the incident occurred but the actions of the employee are deemed proper, the disposition will be exonerated.

If you register a complaint against an employee of The University of Texas at Tyler School of Nursing, you can be assured it will be given a fair and thorough investigation.  You can also be assured that the Dean will review your complaint.

Please do not hesitate to commend an employee or file a complaint when necessary.  This information is invaluable in the School of Nursing's continuing effort to provide the best possible service to the community.
