What is New Patriot Orientation?
Orientation is an informative and fun two-day program that provides incoming students with excellent opportunities to meet people, make new friends and learn what it takes to be successful at UT Tyler. Students learn about academic resources, how to navigate campus and what UT Tyler expects of our students.

How do I register for New Patriot Orientation?
Students and parents/family members may register online.

Where will I stay during New Patriot Orientation?
Students attending New Patriot Orientation will stay on campus in one of the residence halls, and will need to bring a pillow, towels, toiletries, a sleeping bag or twin sheets with a blanket, and a swim suit for the pool party. 

Parents/family members and other guests will need to make arrangements for their stay in Tyler. For a full listing of hotels in Tyler, please visit

Please note: Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 

How much does New Patriot Orientation cost?
The cost of New Patriot Orientation is assessed on your student bill. All incoming freshmen will be charged a one-time New Student Programs fee of $75. This fee covers orientation (materials, meals, and housing) and programming intended to support freshman students during their first year.

The fee for parents/family members and guests attending New Patriot Orientation is $50 per person and $25 for family members and guests 16 and under. To submit payment for parent/family members and guest fees, contact Student Business Services at 903.566.7227. Payment can be paid over the phone using a debit or credit card, or by mailing a check or money order to the following address.

What will I do at New Patriot Orientation?
During New Patriot Orientation students, parent/family members and guests will:

  • Learn more about academic programs, University policies, and services.
  • Meet faculty, staff, and current UT Tyler students.
  • Engage in activities with other incoming students.
  • Learn more about UT Tyler's history and traditions. 

What is the New Patriot Orientation schedule?   
All registered students will receive an email the week prior to their orientation. This email will include a detailed schedule, campus map and information on where to go once you arrive on campus.

A tentative schedule will be posted on the website in May 2016.

What should I wear to New Patriot Orientation?
Be prepared to travel to different places around our beautiful campus. Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for being outside at times. Suggested attire might be sneakers, shorts or loose pants, and a short-sleeved shirt. The buildings can be cold so we also suggest bringing a jacket. 

Can parents and family members attend New Patriot Orientation?
Yes! We encourage students to invite their parents/family members to attend New Patriot Orientation. The orientation schedule will feature presentations geared towards parents/family members.

Please make sure you register and pay for your parents/family members and guests. 

Do I need to attend all the New Patriot Orientation activities?
Yes. If you attend orientation it is important to attend all of the activities offered.

Will I register for my classes at New Patriot Orientation?
Advising and registration is offered before students attend orientation. In fact, all new students are required to meet with an academic advisor prior to attending orientation. To set up your advising and registration appointment please call the Academic Advising Center at 903.565.5718.
