What is Freshman New Patriot Orientation?
Orientation is an informative and fun two-day program that provides incoming students with excellent opportunities to meet people, make new friends and learn what it takes to be successful at UT Tyler. Students learn about academic resources, how to navigate campus and what UT Tyler expects of our students. At orientation, students will be assigned to a advising appointment in which you will need to attend to register for classes.

Putting the wrong major can potentially keep you from registering for courses at orientation.
Registration for summer Freshman New Patriot Orientation will open mid-spring, and we will send an email out to the student's patriot account when registration opens.
What if I cannot make it to any of these orientations?
As a part of your commitment to attending UT Tyler, you are required to complete New Patriot Orientation. We do not allow for work or vacations to be an excuse for not completing this component. We will do our best to be flexible and accommodate as we can. If the dates are full and we are unable to accommodate you, we will offer an online option. The online option is a last resort, and choosing this option will keep you from registering for courses until after our 6th orientation session is over.
How do I register for Freshman New Patriot Orientation?
Students will be added to a "Pre-Orientation Session" on Canvas that they must complete in order to get a registration link. Once your registration form has been submitted all confirmation emails will be sent to your Patriots email account.

If you major is not available here at UT Tyler, you will be advised by the College of Arts and Sciences.
What if I am an International Student?
International Students will complete online Pre-Orientation (New Patriot Orientation 2019) in Canvas just as our non-international students do. At the end of the Pre-Orientation session, you will be prompted to sign up for Transfer/ International Orientation on August 22nd. We have you attending on August 22nd due to travel conflicts and the need to receive more information from the Office of International Programs which we have built into the August 22nd date. We highly encourage these students not to attend any sooner orientation dates for these reasons.
After completing the Pre-Orientation session in Canvas and registering for orientation, International Students need to contact their college's advisor to set up a time to be advised via Zoom Conference. You will be allowed to be enrolled in courses after June 7th.
If you have any questions about paperwork or any other International Student requirements, please visit the Office of International Program's page: https://uttyler.edu/oip/international-student-orientation.php .
