Outdoor Adventures Event Descriptions

Beginner Mountain Bike Rides (Every Friday at 4 p.m.)
Every Friday at 4 p.m. a member of the Rec Sports staff will lead a beginner friendly mountain bike tour showcasing our five miles of campus mountain bike trails. Meeting in front of the HPC, the ride includes bike handling technique sessions that will increase your enjoyment and improve your trail riding. If you don't have a bike, you can borrow one free of charge from the Outdoor Adventures Program.

No Registration Required. Just show up in front of the HPC; first come, first served.

Bike Repair Clinics (The second Thursday of every month 4-6 p.m.)

The second Thursday of every month from 4 - 6 p.m., bring out your bike to the HPC and let us work out any issues you might have with braking, shifting or general riding. We'll try to help you out with any basic maintenance and labor free of charge. You'll only have to buy any necessary parts to get your ride back on the road.

No Registration Required. Just show up near the HPC front desk.

Hammock Hangout™ Every 4th Thursday of every month 4-6 p.m.)

Come hang out with the Outdoor Adventure Club and enjoy a nice evening by stringing up one of several provided hammocks. Play in the monthly corn-hole tournament or show off your skills on the UT Tyler slack line. Prizes will be given out to the top slack liners and corn-hole champions.

No Registration Required. Just show up at Harvey Lake (behind the MET) and join in the fun!

Sabine River Day Trip (Fall) $5

Spend the day paddling down the gentle Sabine River and enjoying the natural East Texas landscape. This is one of the better beginner rivers to practice your canoe paddling skills. Lunch will be provided. There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, in the HPC lobby.

Cost: $5 Students/$15 non-students

Skydiving Trip (Spring & Fall) $150
You've always wanted to, now's your chance. Get the thrill of jumping out of a plane at 14,000 feet with the safety of a licensed tandem master to bring you safely back to the ground. Transportation is provided. There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 30, in the HPC lobby to fill out legal documents.

Cost: $150

UT Tyler Mountain Bike Race (Spring & Fall) Free
Come out and push the envelope to see where you stand with other students and members of the community at the campus mountain bike race. The races begin at 9 a.m. The race will start from the intramural field parking lot and will take place on seven miles of clearly marked campus trails. Register early online or the day of the race; just make sure you come early!

Cost: Free for students, staff and faculty; $5 for community members

Group Mountain Bike Rides (Every Monday at 3:30 p.m.) - Postponed Fall '15
Every Monday at 5:15 p.m. a member of the Rec Sports staff will lead a group mountain bike ride on the campus mountain bike trails. Meeting in front of the HPC, this ride will vary in speed to accommodate its participants. This is a great opportunity to meet others who enjoy riding trails. If you don't have a bike, you can borrow one free of charge from the Outdoor Adventures Program.

Tyler Rose City Triathlon

Join the triathlon community at Lake Tyler September 12th, 2015 for the Rose City Triathlon. This is a great event for spectators, beginner competitors up to advanced/profession level athletes.

Tyler Grit N Glide Race

Join us Oct. 25 for a unique duathlon, half mountain biking and half road cycling, with the regional bicycle community. This event raises money and awareness for the organization For the Silent. This organization helps victims of sex trafficking, and is a unique opportunity for this community to come together on such a serious issue. So come support and ride hard!

Caddo National Park Overniht Camping Trip

Nov. 14 - 15, we will take the first-ever overnight camping trip to Caddo National Park. This beautiful location is home to the ONLY natural lake in this great state. We will canoe to the island located in the lake and camp overnight. Enjoy hiking, swimming and slacklining as well as stove top cooking and hanging out with fellow college students. Sign up now for this amazing trip! Pre-trip meeting will be 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in the HPC lobby.
