Chemistry and Biochemistry Safety

The University of Texas at Tyler

Chemistry and Biochemistry laboratories can have fun experiments covering a wide range of topics.  Students will require much preparation and detail orientation but with a rewarding finish.  Safety in these laboratory spaces is paramount to a successful experiment.  Small accidents can lead to big incidents.  This is why EH&S maintains the Chemical Hygiene Plan.  This plan provides students with the necessary information to stay safe working inside chemistry and biochemistry laboratories.

IN THE LAB:

The Biological Safety Program can be found here: Chemical Hygiene Plan

The guide states that risk assessment forms must be filled out for potentially hazardous protocols.  Contact EH&S if this form is not available for your experiments.

BioRaft is an excellent place to get hazard information inside your individual lab.  Follow the link to learn more.  Contact EH&S if you cannot access BioRaft.
