The men and women highlighted here are early in their careers, but they are already leading the way. They make their communities better by being exceptional entrepreneurs, teachers, financial officers, artists, medical professionals and community advocates.

Andrew Aloia

Andrew Aloia always had a passion for technology; eventually obtaining his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Network Security. As an East Texas native, he grew up seeing a lack of business infrastructure support. Nexus IT Solutions is 5 years old and continuing to impact businesses and support their technology needs.

Chelsea Baranski received her MA and MFA degrees in Studio Art from UT Tyler in 2016. Her artwork has been displayed in local, national, and international exhibitions. She traveled to Iceland as an Artist-in-Residence at Gullkistan: Center for Creativity. Chelsea is currently an Adjunct Instructor for UT Tyler.

Lexie Clark

Lexie Clark is the Program Coordinator for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital. Additionally, she has held volunteer positions in the Junior League of Tyler, SPIRIT of St. Louis Therapeutic Riding Center, and Tyler Heart Ball. Lexie is a proud graduate of the University of Kansas.

Justin Davenport graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Human Resources Development at UT Tyler. He works at Altra Federal Credit Union as the Branch Office Manager for the new location in the Villages at Cumberland Park, a new development in Tyler.

Jesse Edwards

Jesse Edwards received her Jesse Edwards (born 1996) is an internationally performed composer of rising acclaim. While several of his most recent works premiered in Italy and Ukraine earlier this year, Jesse still enjoys working and collaborating with local ensembles and artists. He currently studies Music Composition at Stephen F. Austin State University.

As a proud member of the American Hair Loss Council and the Transitions Hair Loss Center Crystina Garcia provides her clients with the latest technology in hair replacement. Crystina transforms the lives of those suffering from moderate to severe hair loss by creating custom made hair additions. She is constantly making a positive impact on the lives of her clients.

 

 

Merritt Grimm

Merritt Grimm

Merritt Grimm is an Assistant Vice President at BancorpSouth and serves as a commercial loan officer. He joined BancorpSouth in 2012 after serving as an accountant with Ernst & Young. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Finance from Texas A&M University. Merritt is also a certified public accountant.

Austin Gwartney is the President of The Lighting Empire, LLC, Gwartney Enterprises and multiple real estate holdings serving all of East Texas. Upon graduation he concentrated on expanding his foot print in the local economy. Austin and his beautiful wife Kayla are the proud parents of Konnor and Ava Kay Gwartney.

Dylan Humphrey started decorating cakes at the age of 12. He opened his storefront when he turned 20. His business has grown tremendously after an appearance on Food Network’s Cake Wars in 2015. Dylan recently expanded his shop to include a studio for cake decorating classes. He really enjoys what he does!

Dr. Spencer Mack Hansen is a native of Longview, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M University, obtained her DDS at Baylor College of Dentistry, and went on to obtain her orthodontic certificate from UT Houston. She is married to Dr. Andrew Hansen. Spencer practices at Sherman & Briscoe Orthodontics.

Juan Olivera

Juan Olivera

Juan Olivera is currently on the path to become a licensed professional counselor and is a student at the University of Texas at Tyler, pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental. He is a recipient of the 2017 National Board of Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Program-Addictions Counselors (MFP-AC).

Parastoo Nikravesh

Parastoo Nikravesh is an Iranian-American journalism major in her junior year at Stephen F. Austin State University. She’s from Jacksonville, Texas, where she studied journalism in high school and received various journalism scholarships and awards for her work. Parastoo was recently named editor-in-chief of The Pine Log, SFA’s student-led newspaper.

Vincent Purvis is a native East Texan and co-owner of Silver Grizzly Espresso, a local coffee shop focused on creating community through coffee. He is a 2017 UT Tyler MBA graduate and received his Bachelors from LeTourneau University in 2012. Vincent is passionate about cultivating community through creating meaningful experiences.

Isaac Ramiréz is proud to call himself an East Texan. After graduating from Henderson High School, Isaac would get degrees in Radio/TV and Spanish at Stephen F. Austin State University. After two years in West Texas, Isaac returned home to become a morning anchor for KETK NBC.

Jamal D. Smith

As Mr. SFA ‘11, Jamal holds two degrees from SFA. Over the past four years, he’s held positions at UHCL, UT Tyler, and is currently Director of Orientation at SFA. Jamal is a national co-chair within the Association of Orientation, Transition, and Retention. Pursuing his Ed.D. in higher education, he aspires to become a Dean of Students.

 

Kerin “KK” Stevens

Kierin “KK” Stevens

Kierin was a member of the UT Tyler softball team and the honors program. With the help of her teammates she earned accolades such as First Team All American and Division III Catcher of the Year. Kierin is currently working towards her Master’s degree in Statistics from Texas A&M.

Magan Tyler is a young business owner from Longview. She received the “Spirit of Entrepreneurs” award from the Longview Chamber of Commerce in 2011 and went on to start TeamAptitude, a digital marketing firm. She enjoys being involved in the city's growth efforts as well as other local events.

Jacy Watson is a lifestyle/portrait photographer based in Tyler, servicing the greater East Texas area. After working at SFA as a sports photographer, she started her own business in 2014. She is known for her signature rich colors and soft lighting. Her work has been featured in publications such as The Sawdust magazine, and Dress Me Bridal.

Cameron Williams

Cameron Williams

Cameron Williams is a 2015 graduate of UT Tyler and has worked in the fitness industry since high school, which has led to now co-owning GYMBOX Fitness in Longview. He is also founder & president of a nonprofit, Drive To Remember, which raises funds for Alzheimer's research & support. Cameron also serves as president for the East Texas Alzheimer’s Alliance.
