The Department of Literature and Languages hosts the A.I. Writing, Technology, and Ethics Certificate. Students from any major can take the three courses (nine hours) in this interdisciplinary Certificate. The A.I. Writing, Technology, and Ethics Certificate provides UT Tyler students the opportunity to explore the intersection of humanities and emerging technologies.
The certificate is composed of three classes: PHIL 4302 (Ethics & Technology), ENGL 3362 (Reading & Writing about Data), and CMST 4360 (Communication Processes and Artificial Intelligence). PHIL 4302 explores questions like whether A.I. should be integrated into weapons systems or whether A.I. should be used in health care. ENGL 3362 trains students on A.I. assisted research, reading practices, and writing strategies. CMST 4360 considers the history, technology, and practical effects of A.I. technology.
The aim of the certificate is for students to be able to use A.I. generators for diverse tasks, reflect on the ethical dimensions of technology, practice content curation and manipulation, and explore technological innovation. The certificate cultivates the following marketable skills: solving complex problems, building A.I. models for aesthetic appeal to audiences and information purposes, and applying sound judgment on responsible use of A.I. in diverse workplace settings.
