Workplace Accommodations

The University of Texas at Tyler and the University of Texas Health Science Center Tyler is committed to provide an educational, living and working environment that is welcoming, respectful and inclusive to all members of the University community. As part of this effort, the University is committed to providing faculty, staff, and visitors with equal access and opportunity to all programs, activities, and facilities.

In accordance with federal and state laws, including but not limited to Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008, the University prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in all aspects of the application process and the employment relationship. The procedure below are also used to comply with these federal and state laws, as well as with the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA), PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act, and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. The purpose is to provide reasonable accomkmodations to qualified persons unless doing so creates an undue hardship.

Procedures:

Obtaining Information Concerning Accommodations

Applicants: Applicants can obtain information concerning accommodations in the application process by contacting the HR Office/Workplace Accommodation Coordinator at 903-566-7234.

Employees or Supervisors: Employees or supervisors can obtain information concerning accommodations by contacting the HR Office/Workplace Accommodation Coordinator at 903-566-7234. Employee requests for information, and the provision of information concerning accommodations is not considered a part of the accommodation process.

Initiating the Accommodation Process

Applicants: Applicants for employment can initiate a request for accommodation by contacting the HR Office/Workplace Accommodation Coordinator.

Employees: Employees can initiate the accommodation process by requesting an accommodation by submitting the Employee Accommodation Request Form. 

Supervisors: Supervisors who receive a request for accommodation shall immediately advise the employee to submit the Employee Accommodation Request Form so that the official processing of the request can begin. Any supervisor who, in the course of job performance counseling, is informed by an employee that a physical or mental condition may be affecting the employee's work performance shall refer the employee to the Employee Accommodation Request Form, and notify the HR Office of such referral.
