That belief guides the work of the UT Tyler School of Education, where we prepare future teachers, educational leaders and professionals to serve students, families, schools and communities with purpose.

We are not simply a School of Education located in East Texas. We exist to serve East Texas. Through rigorous academic programs, meaningful field experiences, innovative research and strong partnerships with schools and districts, we are helping shape the future of education across the region and beyond.

The School of Education is dedicated to providing relevant and rigorous educator preparation. The School of Education educator preparation programs have a rating of Accredited, the highest rating, from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC). The University of Texas at Tyler is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). A Different Kind of School of Education

Education has the power to transform lives, strengthen communities and shape the future. At the UT Tyler School of Education, we embrace that responsibility with purpose and optimism. Our students learn from dedicated faculty, gain hands-on experience in schools and communities, and develop the knowledge and skills needed to make a lasting impact

We prepare educators, but our work does not stop there. We convene partners, support practicing professionals, conduct meaningful research and work alongside schools and communities to address the educational challenges facing East Texas.

We are committed to helping future educators and leaders grow in confidence, develop their talents and prepare for rewarding careers that serve others.

The East Texas Educator Workforce Commitment

The The East Texas Educator Workforce Commitment Draft positions the School’s work as a response to regional educator workforce challenges, including teacher shortages, growing numbers of uncertified educators and student achievement needs across Education Service Center Regions 7 and 8.

The commitment reframes success not only around enrollment, degrees awarded or educator preparation completions, but around the workforce outcomes UT Tyler helps create across East Texas.

By 2032, the draft vision states that the UT Tyler School of Education will seek to meet 60% of the educator workforce need across ESC Regions 7 and 8 and strive to produce approximately 1,300 annual educator workforce outcomes, including 1,000 newly prepared teachers and 300 practicing educators who earn certification each year.

UT Tyler has continuously opened doors for me throughout my career. I still rely on my UT Tyler network of professors and former classmates for professional collaboration. The university continues to greatly enrich my life both personally and professionally. I am proud to be a Patriot!
