Communication Studies Minor

Communication studies may be chosen as a minor to satisfy certain bachelor degree programs with majors in other fields. This program consists of 18 semester hours in communication studies, at least nine of which must be upper division. In consultation with their communication studies minor advisor, students may select courses in the minor to meet their personal and professional goals.

 

Health Communication Minor

The health communication minor is a great option for students with majors in communication studies, mass communication, social work, pharmacy, pre-med, nursing, health sciences, kinesiology, and psychology.

If you are interested in a career that seeks to increase knowledge and awareness about health, change attitudes and behaviors, demonstrate healthy behaviors, improve public health outcomes (including in a crisis or day to day), advocacy, increase demand or support for health services and funding, or educate, then this minor is a great addition to your college experience. Health communication would benefit careers in nursing, any type of health care provider, public health journalists, public health scientists, information officers, employees with the Department of Health and Human Services at the national or state level, the Center for Disease Control, social workers, social advocators, academics, interventionists, therapists, and more.

In consultation with their communication studies minor advisor, students can focus their health communication minor based on their interests and goals.
