UT Tyler School of Performing Arts
The School of Performing Arts offers course work leading to the Bachelor of Music degree (BM), Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (BA), and Master of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS). A minor in music is also available for students earning degrees in areas outside of music.
Students may further select an emphasis in:
- Instrumental or Vocal Music Education
- Instrumental, Vocal or Keyboard Performance
- Piano Pedagogy
- Music History
- Music Theory
For those who plan to teach music at the elementary, or secondary levels, a Music Teacher Certification Program is also available in conjunction with many of our degrees through the College of
Education and Psychology.
Note: Freshman- and sophomore-year music courses are common to all music degrees. In the junior and senior years, the requirements diverge according to specialization. Students should be aware that unlike many other college majors, specialized music study must begin with the first semester of freshman enrollment. It is not possible to enroll only in core curriculum ("basics") courses during the first two years.
