The University of Texas at Tyler Longview University Center is proud to announce the establishment of the Robbins Family Scholarship. The fund was established by Betty Robbins Hurst, Dorothy Robbins Skeans and John Clinton Robbins to provide financial assistance to students enrolled at the Longview campus.

Shortly after the LUC was established, the Robbins family made a substantial gift to fund the creation of the sculpture of "The Student" which is located at the entrance of Garland Hall. Dorothy Robbins Skean, who is a renowned sculptor was commissioned to create the statue. After deducting the cost of "The Student," the balance was placed in escrow until another worthy project could be identified by the family.

"My sisters and I decided to create this scholarship to support students enrolled in programs offered at UT Tyler's Longview campus," said John Robbins. "Our family believes that the Longview University Center is a great asset for our community, and we are pleased that the Robbins name will be associated with this campus in perpetuity."

"We are grateful to the Robbins Family for this gift," said Dr. Van Patterson, director of the UT Tyler Longview University Center. "Many of our students are considered 'non-traditional' because in addition to being enrolled in courses, many are also currently employed and raising families. Scholarships of this type are a wonderful way to help these students reach their academic goals."

Located at 3201 North Eastman Road, the Longview University Center offers degree-completion opportunities to citizens of Longview and surrounding areas. For more information, contact the LUC at 903.663.8100 or visit uttyler.edu/luc.
