What is a BAAS Degree?
The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) is a completion degree designed for flexibility and career advancement that helps students maximize previous credits and experience while gaining skills for career growth.
What does the BAAS Degree Consist of?
1. BAAS Curriculum (33 credits)

- Professional Core (18 credits) taken by all BAAS Students
- Specializations (15 credits), where the BAAS student selects one area of specialization
2. Electives: Transferrable Credits and Credit from a Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio (45 credits)
3. Texas Common General Education Core required by State Law (42 credits)
Professional Core Courses:
All BAAS Students engage in coursework to help them be influential and effective leaders in the workplace. Our Professional Core Courses are recommended and reviewed by business and industry partners. The Professional Core consists of:
- CMST 4350: Communication in the Workplace – the first course in the Professional Core. This is also where you can earn your first industry credential in Coursera.
- MANA 4385: Strategic Leadership
- PHIL 3344: Ethical Leadership
- EDUC 4340: Artificial Intelligence Tools in Society
- ALHS 3370: Health and Wellness
- PSYC 4345: Addressing Pressing Problems in a Diverse World (BAAS Capstone course)
Specialization Options
Designed to provide the knowledge needed to expand careers in the management realm of health professions. Specialization courses include: MANA 3311: Fundamentals of Management, MANA 3320: Human Resource Management, ALHS 3352: Consumer Health, ALHS 3360: Community and Public Health, ALHS 4306: Healthcare Delivery Systems
Designed for professionals in a specific healthcare field to expand their knowledge to facilitate career advancement in the area or prepare for graduate professional programs. Specialization courses include: PSYC 4353: Developmental Psychology, PSYC 4311: Abnormal Psychology, ALHS 3352: Consumer Health, ALHS 3360: Community and Public Health, ALHS 4306: Healthcare Delivery Systems
Designed for individuals seeking to increase their effectiveness in working with people through their ability to understand, examine, and apply information about human thought, feeling, and behavior. Specialization courses include: PSYC 4353: Developmental Psychology, PSYC 4311: Abnormal Psychology, PSYC 4341: Personality Theory, PSYC 3310: Health Psychology, PSYC 3315: Positive Psychology
Co-designed by the student and advisor around a theme enabling the student to study a specific topic from multiple perspectives.
The Educational Studies specialization is designed for students interested in going into education, both inside and outside of the K-12 educational system. This specialization is particularly helpful for students who would like to work in an elementary school. Specialization courses include: EDUC 4301: Mathematical Problem Solving in EC6, EDUC 4303: Educational Foundations, EDUC 4321: Integrating Technology in the Classroom, EDUC 4383: Science Curriculum in the Elementary Classroom, EPSY 3330: Educational Psychology: Child Development and Learning.
