Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences
The Department of SLHS upholds the three strategic pillars of UT Tyler by prioritizing student success, excellence in teaching, and service to East Texas.
Our undergraduate program is offered in two degree tracks: in-person, and live virtual online (in real time). Upon graduation, our undergraduate students can seek employment in three major communication sciences and disorders areas, among others:
- Speech language pathology assistants
- Hearing instrumentation specialists
- Audiology assistants
Just 20 minutes north of main campus, our Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic is embedded in the Family Medicine Practice at the Riter Center on the UT Tyler Health Science Center North campus, ensuring equal access to the highest quality patient care by accepting all forms of insurance, including Medicaid.
Our graduate speech language pathology students serve patients in our Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic under 100% supervision from our highly qualified clinical educators. Our graduate students also participate in the following multidisciplinary teams:
- Modified Barium Swallow Study Team with Radiology
- Neurodevelopmental Evaluation Team with Pediatrics, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy, and Audiology
- Dementia Assessment Team with Neurology
- Pediatric Speech and Language Evaluation Team with local school districts
Our undergraduate and graduate students also participate in our department’s club, the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association.
