Texas Childhood Trauma Research Network (TX-CTRN)
The Texas Childhood Trauma Research Network (TX-CTRN) was created through the passing of Senate Bill 11 in the 86th Texas Legislature to address one of the biggest challenges facing Texas youth: childhood trauma.
TX-CTRN serves as the research initiative of the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC). This initiative seeks to unite a collaborative network of experts to better understand, prevent, and treat childhood trauma; offer the opportunity to participate in an observational research study; inform policymakers to make informed decisions related to childhood trauma; and, ultimately, bridge the gap in mental health services available to children and adolescents in Texas.
Study Goals
The purpose of this research repository is to develop a system, TX-CTRN, to gather
information from youth and their caregivers to better understand how to measure, treat,
and prevent the after-effects of trauma exposure in youth.
Through TX-CTRN, we will develop a network participant registry to collect information from youth and parents about behaviors and other mental health symptoms that relate to health outcomes. This information will help clinicians, educators, and other youth-related stakeholders to provide more informed education and treatment recommendations to youth, parents, and families. We hope the questions asked in this research will advance care for children and adolescents in Texas.
Who can participate?
Children, adolescents, and young adults between the ages of 8-20 years old who meet
the following requirements may be eligible:
- Have a history of trauma exposure
- Are willing to provide consent and assent
- Are English and/or Spanish speakers
- Are willing to dedicate appropriate time to complete scheduled study assessments and measures for children and parents
Participating in the registry can last up to two years. Eligible participants could receive up to $400 in compensation. Optional therapy also available for qualifying participants. Consent must be provided by parents/guardians for participants under age 18. Find additional study information at texasctrn.org.

Bowie, Camp, Cass, Cherokee, Delta, Franklin, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Hopkins,
Lamar, Marion, Morris, Nacogdoches, Panola, Rains, Red River, Rusk, Shelby, Smith,
Titus, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood.
The Network Hub is located at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School.
