Biography

Dr. Kyudong Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering and Management at The University of Texas at Tyler. He brings a unique combination of academic expertise and extensive global industry experience to his role, having worked for 12 years at Samsung C&T Corporation across diverse international construction projects before pursuing graduate studies.

Dr. Kim's professional background spans multiple continents, where he served as project control manager and field engineer on major infrastructure projects in South Korea, UAE, Kuwait, India, and Indonesia. His industry experience also includes strategic leadership as a human resource manager at Samsung C&T's corporate headquarters, providing him with valuable insights into organizational dynamics and workforce management in the construction sector.

His research program focuses on organizational adaptation and performance in construction, with particular emphasis on how external disruptions—such as pandemics and natural disasters—impact construction organizations and project outcomes. Dr. Kim's interdisciplinary approach bridges construction management, organizational behavior, and disaster resilience, examining critical issues including pandemic-induced organizational changes, effective crisis communication strategies, organization-public relationships during extreme weather events, and ethical decision-making in engineering practice.

This combination of extensive international industry experience and rigorous academic training positions Dr. Kim uniquely to address real-world challenges facing the construction industry while advancing theoretical understanding of organizational behavior in complex project environments.
