Bio

An educator at heart, Dr. Robert DeHaas believes the primary responsibility of a School of Education is to develop the educators and education leaders who enable children, schools, and communities to thrive. As Dean of the School of Education at The University of Texas at Tyler, he is committed to ensuring the School serves as a catalyst for educational excellence, workforce development, and regional prosperity across East Texas.

Grounded in leadership experience spanning the classroom, K–12 schools, nonprofit organizations, and higher education, Dr. DeHaas has dedicated his career to developing innovative solutions that challenge traditional thinking, strengthen educator preparation, and expand educational opportunity. His work has centered on designing scalable initiatives and forging meaningful partnerships that bring together schools, higher education, government, philanthropy, and industry to address complex challenges facing children, families, and communities.

At UT Tyler, Dr. DeHaas is focused on positioning the School of Education as a regional leader in educator preparation, applied research, and community partnership. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community leaders, he is committed to advancing research-informed practice, fostering innovation, and preparing the next generation of educators and education leaders who will strengthen schools throughout East Texas.

He believes the future of East Texas will be shaped by the educators it prepares today, and that every child—regardless of where they live—deserves the opportunity to learn from exceptional teachers and leaders. That conviction continues to guide his work at UT Tyler and his commitment to serving the schools and communities of East Texas.
