Biography
Dr. Sooah Ellen Park is a Professor of Music and the Director of the Opera and Musical Theater Program at The University of Texas at Tyler. She holds a D.M.A. and an M.M. from The University of Texas at Austin, a B.M. from the Eastman School of Music, and an M.B.A. from UT Tyler.
An accomplished soprano, Dr. Park has performed extensively, highlighted by a solo recital at Carnegie Hall and international operatic appearances in Finland, Brazil, Mexico, and Costa Rica. Her stage credits span diverse roles, including Pamina in Die Zauberflöte and Michaela in La Tragédie de Carmen. As a frequent concert soloist, she has performed Bach’s Cantata 140 with the Tyler Civic Chorale, as well as Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem and Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, she has presented guest recitals at esteemed institutions such as Indiana University, UT Arlington, Stephen F. Austin State University, Pennsylvania State University, and Providence College. Her growing discography includes a 2019 recording of Chaminade Songs on Albany Records, and her 2022 single album featuring Charles Wakefield Cadman's From Wigwam and Tepee, available across Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and other major digital streaming platforms.
Dr. Park is an active researcher bridging voice pedagogy, vocology, and autonomic nervous system regulation, frequently presenting at national and international conferences for PAVA, ICVPB, CMS, and NATS. Her scholarly and creative outputs include her 2025 textbook, Broadway Through the Ages, alongside grant-funded discography releases like The Native American Poems and Songs and Cecile Chaminade Songs.
