The University of Texas at Tyler is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for the entire university, including Faculty, Staff, and Students. In pursuit of this goal, the following Exposure Control Program is provided to minimize or mitigate occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens in accordance with the State of Texas Health and Safety Code, §81.304 and with guidance from the OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.1030, "Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens."

The program includes basic PPE, handling and clean up instructions that are mandatory across all university owned and operated laboratory spaces.  Additionally, laboratories in direct contat with animals must fill out the acceptance and/or declination form within 10 days after starting their position, as per IACUC regulations.  However, Environmental Health and Safety offers these Hepatitis B vaccinations at the University Health Clinic at no cost for all Faculty, Staff and Students who may become exposed to animals while working at the university.
