Rose Scholarship

The University of Texas at Tyler

A UT Tyler Rose Scholar is defined as a student who would be an exemplary representative on behalf of The University of Texas at Tyler. This scholar will represent UT Tyler in the community at events including but not limited to Rose Festival 2024 along with 5 hours per week in the Office of Community Partnerships & Special Events. Two students will be selected for this position by a committee.

Rose Scholars are also expected to represent the University in both outreach programs and special campus-wide events held throughout the academic year. The Rose Scholar is awarded a scholarship disbursement which will include all tuition, fees, and stipend towards books for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.

The scholarship covers the following items:

  • Tuition (Statutory & Designated)
  • Mandatory Fees
  • Course Fees
  • Student Service Fees
  • Books ($800 Allowance Per Term; To Be Used at the UT Tyler Bookstore Only)
  • Pride Meal Plan

Rose Festival Activities include the events listed below:

  • Thursday, October 17 at 10am, Texas Rose Festival Ribbon Cutting and Morning Prayer Service
  • Friday, October 18 at 11:15am, Texas Rose Festival Men’s Luncheon
  • Friday, October 18 at 11:30am, Texas Rose Festival Ladies’ Luncheon
  • Friday, October 18 at 2pm, Texas Rose Festival Matinee Coronation
  • Friday, October 18 at 7pm, Texas Rose Festival Evening Coronation
  • Friday, October 18 at 9:30pm, Texas Rose Festival Past President’s Reception
  • Saturday, October 19 at 9am, Texas Rose Festival Parade
  • Saturday, October 19 at 1pm, Texas Rose Festival Queen’s Tea
  • Work five hours per week in the Office of Community Partnerships & Special Events
  • Participate in community events representing UT Tyler at the discretion of the Office of Community Partnerships & Special Events

  6. Faculty/Staff Recommendation - The Faculty/Staff Recommendation Form is a separate link that we send to the faculty/staff member you have chosen to complete the form.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Successful completion of at least one year at UT Tyler (at least one fall & spring semester or one full academic year).
  2. Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at UT Tyler and plan to be enrolled for Fall 2024 & Spring 2025 semesters as an undergraduate student in at least 6 hours each semester.
  3. Minimum of 2.5 cumulative UT Tyler G.P.A. each semester.
  4. Completion of all pieces of the Rose Scholar Application by April 1, 2024.
  5. Available for an in-person interview that will be held on the main Tyler campus on Wednesay, May 1 (specific interview times will be communicated directly with the Rose Scholar finalists).
  6. Strong interpersonal skills, including conversation and public speaking.
  7. Leadership skills or previous leadership experience.
