Curriculum and Assessment Lab

Room 205 of the Biology, Education, and Psychology building houses the Curriculum and Assessment Lab. This lab is equipped with a variety of instructional tools and materials needed by pre-service teachers and graduate students in education courses at The University of Texas at Tyler. In one section of the room students can find bookbinders, a lamination machine, Ellison dies, construction paper, bulletin board paper, and other resources needed for preparing instructional materials used in completing classroom and tutoring assignments. Education students are free to use the equipment and materials in the room without charge as long as the materials being prepared are needed for a course in which they are enrolled.

Bookshelves at the back of the room house the collection of childrens' and young adult story books and literature used in the School’s EC-4 Teacher Preparation program. A selection of reference books on instructional strategies and instructional interventions is also available for use by pre-service teachers.

Other sections of the room contain an abundance of math manipulatives, instructional tools, science and social studies materials, emotional and behavioral materials, and educational games. A large table and a study section where students can peruse the materials and books before making their selections are convenient for students’ use.

Assessment tools used in reading and special education classes can be borrowed from the Curriculum and Assessment Lab, also. Use is restricted to students currently registered in the courses where those tests are taught or required.

Students may prepare instructional tools in BEP 205. Instructional games, tests, and books are checked out on a “first-come, first-serve” basis. Materials are checked out for one week; however, students can renew the checkout if the materials are needed for a slightly longer period of time.
All test kits are stored in a separate area, so students needing a specific kit should call the Curriculum and Assessment Lab a day in advance in order to reserve a kit.

The staff of the Curriculum and Assessment Lab attempt to keep the lab open at the hours most convenient for students in the UT Tyler School of Education. Hours of service for the semester are:

Monday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Tuesday 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Wednesday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Thursday 12 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Friday 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Additional Children's Books and Curriculum Materials can be found in the UT Tyler Muntz Library. There is a large collection of literature and textbooks approved for use in Texas. There are also a number of teacher guides on reserve.
