Dr. Robert L. Jones, UT Tyler professor emeritus and former vice president of administration,
was honored recently by Mississippi State University with the naming of a new Robert
L. Jones Student Affairs Hall of Honor.
Jones was recognized at a special event along with three former colleagues who served
under him.
He served at MSU 1967 – 1984, when he joined UT Tyler. Jones was a member of UT Tyler
administration and faculty 1984 – 2001.
At MSU, he was the first vice president for student affairs who was charged to initiate
and implement a modern, professional organization to meet the needs of a rapidly changing
and growing student body.
During his tenure, he mentored a young staff and established trained residence halls
head-residents and programs, student leadership training programs, freshman and parent
orientation programs and intramural programs.
“Our new Hall of Honor pays tribute to those who provided sustained and distinguished
service to Mississippi State University,” said Dr. Bill Kibler, current MSU vice president
for student affairs.
Jones left behind a legacy of success and growth reflected in its current student
body enrollment, he added.
