UT Tyler alumna Cristi Parsons was named Texas’ Distinguished Principal of the Year,
Dr. Ross Sherman, College of Education and Psychology dean, announced.
Parsons was nominated for the honor by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors
Association and received an award in the amount of $10,000. She will represent Texas
at the National Distinguished Principals Program this fall in Washington D.C.
“I am honored to represent the state of Texas as Texas National Principal of the Year,”
Parsons said. “My dream is to share with other leaders the belief that I have in collaboration,
building relationships, communicating high expectations, monitoring student achievement
and having systematic plans in place so that all students will achieve academic success.”
She graduated from UT Tyler in May 2007 with a master of education degree in educational
administration from the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy.
Parsons has served Hallsville Independent School District as its North Elementary
School principal for six years. She currently is enrolled in UT Tyler’s superintendent
certification program.
