UT Tyler student veterans were presented with an American flag that was flown over the Capitol, Chris Cox, Veterans Resource Center coordinator, announced.

Congressman Louie Gohmert made the presentation to the UT Tyler Student Veterans Organization in appreciation for their support of veterans in the community and the group’s third anniversary.

“Veterans are trained extensively to be leaders, and that leadership and drive does not end with a contract,” Cox said. “It is an honor to serve a group of students with such a heart to lead by example. The UT Tyler veterans are a credit to our country, Smith County, this university and themselves.”

The mission of the UT Tyler Veterans Resource Center is to provide a pipeline of information including resources, support and advocacy for student veterans and dependents to utilize in order to create successful leaders on campus, as well as in the community and Smith County.
