The University of Texas at Tyler community is encouraged to help make the holidays brighter for local children and families by participating in the campus police department's annual toy and supply drive. The public drive benefits the Children's Advocacy Center of Smith County.
"We are always touched to see the outpouring of support for needy children and families from the UT Tyler community during our annual toy drive. We are proud to be able to give back to Smith County families in this way," said Police Chief Mike Medders. "Please join us in helping local children and their families during this holiday season."
Participants may bring new, unwrapped toys for children ages 2 and older to the department no later than Friday, Dec. 15. Other accepted items include soap, baby shampoo, large diapers, basic cleaning supplies and toiletries.
The police department, which is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week, is located at 3410 Varsity Drive in the University Service Center, room 125.
The Children's Advocacy Center of Smith County is dedicated to child victims of physical and sexual abuse. The center strives to reduce trauma through a unified effort that facilitates the healing of the children and their families.
