August 1, 2018

Tyler, TX – Edward Caldwell, outreach education coordinator for the colorectal cancer (CRC) screening project at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, was named Community Health Worker of The Year at the 2018 Northeast Texas Community Health Worker Coalition Conference on July 13 at Tyler Junior College West Campus.

He joined the CRC project, which is based in The Center for Rural Community Health on the UT Health Science Center Tyler campus, in 2014.
“Edward has been a tremendous asset to the team and is the definition of a great community health worker,” said Carlton Allen, program manager for the CRC screening project. “He coordinates all of the team’s outreach efforts, from scheduling our program for participation in special events, to managing the outreach schedule.”

Edward is also part of the inaugural class of the master of public health (MPH) program in The School of Community and Rural Health, and is set to graduate in spring of 2019.
