Planned Giving: How Others are Leaving a Lasting Legacy at UT Health Science Center

December 20, 2019

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler expresses the sincerest of gratitude for the institution’s donors who carefully plan their philanthropy and impact. Recently, two planned gifts were realized and are making a difference in cancer research, trauma research and care and permanent research funding. These acts of philanthropy ensure a lasting legacy and true impact for generations to come.

D.J. and Jack Harris wanted to make a significant difference at UT Health Science Center at Tyler – one that would improve lives throughout the region. Working with their financial adviser and our advancement staff, they set up a charitable gift annuity, commonly referred to as a CGA. This annuity allowed them to receive a steady stream of income and make a great impact at the health science center. In April 2019, their gift was realized and designated for cancer and trauma research conducted right here in East Texas at UT Health Science Center.

Alice and Hal Juengling had a similar feeling – a desire in wanting to make a lasting impact at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. The Juenglings wanted to provide substantial, permanent medical research funding to advance the discoveries in their own backyard. They chose to give a percentage of their estate in their will to UT Health Science Center at Tyler for the creation of a new medical research endowment.

The Harrises and Juenglings both realized their potential to make a true impact for not only UT Health Science Center at Tyler, but for East Texas and beyond. Their gifts, through thoughtful and concerted planning efforts, are leaving a lasting legacy for years to come, all for the benefit of East Texans.
