October 15, 2019

Daniel Deslatte, MPA, FACHE, has been named to Modern Healthcare’s 2019 Top 25 Emerging Leaders. Modern Healthcare, the leader in healthcare business news, research and data, annually honors emerging leaders all age 40 or under, who have made significant contributions in the areas of innovation and financial, operational and clinical excellence early in their careers.

Daniel Deslatte is the Senior Vice President for Business Affairs and External Relations at The University of Texas Health Science Center Tyler. Mr. Deslatte is responsible for strategic planning, business development, public affairs, marketing and governmental relations. He is also responsible for managing the university’s interest in the public-private partnership that created the UT Health East Texas Health System, an integrated health system with ten hospitals, more than 50 physician clinics, 13 regional rehabilitation facilities, two freestanding emergency centers, regional home health services and a comprehensive seven-trauma center care network, including a Level 1 Trauma Center and four air ambulances.

“It is certainly an honor to be recognized by Modern Healthcare,” Deslatte said. “I’m grateful to The University of Texas for the opportunity to serve my community alongside our more than 6,500 caregivers, educators and researchers throughout East Texas,” commented Deslatte.

Prior to joining UT Health Science Center in 2011, Mr. Deslatte spent nearly a decade in senior-level positions in the Texas Legislature, including chief of staff to a senior member of the House of Representatives and as the director of a joint House-Senate committee with oversight of Texas’ health and human services system.

Mr. Deslatte is a former fellow of the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He serves on the board of a number of community and statewide organizations, including The United Way of Smith County and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Texas Child Mental Healthcare Consortium.

“Daniel is a smart, dynamic and focused young leader who is a magnificent member of our leadership team,” commented Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun, president of UT Health Science Center at Tyler and chairman of the board of UT Heath East Texas. “To say he has a great future is an understatement. You cannot ask for a better or more talented individual to be in charge of our strategic positioning and business operations. Whatever you ask of him, he has the skills to go get it accomplished.”
