UT Tyler Names Senior Vice President for Development

The University of Texas at Tyler has selected Archie Tucker II, PhD, as the new senior vice president for development.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Tucker to UT Tyler,” said Kirk A. Calhoun, MD, FACP, UT Tyler president. “With a wealth of experience and expertise in development, he will be an asset to the university and the community.”

With nearly 20 years of experience in higher education, Tucker comes to UT Tyler after serving 10 years as the Alabama A&M University (AAMU) vice president for marketing, communication and advancement. Under his leadership, annual giving at AAMU increased from $850,000 to $11.2 million in 2021 with a return on investment exceeding 700%. Alumni giving also rose from less than 1% to 19%.

He also led AAMU’s first capital campaign that raised $27.3 million, which exceeded the initial goal of $16.25 million.

As senior vice president for development at UT Tyler, Tucker will guide the department’s strategic planning and development strategies and oversee fundraising efforts and alumni and constituent relations.

Tucker holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Mississippi Valley State University, a Master of Business Administration degree from Delta State University and a PhD in urban higher education from Jackson State University. He has a certificate in Fund Raising Management (CFRM) from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
