The University of Texas at Tyler Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy team recently advanced to round four of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy's Clinical Pharmacy Challenge, placing the school in the top 14% out of the 114 pharmacy schools who participated.

The university's team was composed of fourth-year students Tulsi Patel, Nadine Natsheh and Viyaleta Manatyrskaya.

The ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge is renowned for its competitive nature and rigorous assessment of clinical knowledge and skills. Teams from other schools and colleges of pharmacy across the nation compete against each other in a quiz-bowl-type format. An expert panel of clinical pharmacy practitioners and educators develop and review the questions, which cover clinical cases, biostatistics, health outcomes, pharmacology and pharmacokinetics.

“What a wonderful accomplishment, a testament to their hard work,” said Dr. Amy Schwartz, Fisch College of Pharmacy dean. “They should be proud of this accomplishment. Many thanks to the faculty who supported their success.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the projected growth of pharmacy employment between 2021 and 2031 will be 2%, while the projected openings for pharmacists average 13,600 each year for the next decade, indicating a huge shortage of pharmacists. As the university continues to foster excellence in pharmaceutical education, this accomplishment further solidifies UT Tyler's commitment to providing its students with top-tier academic experiences and opportunities for success.

The Fisch College of Pharmacy offers a four-year Doctor of Pharmacy degree program. In 2023, 100% of students matched with a residency program and 100% passed the Pharmacy Curriculum Outcomes Assessment.
