100% of students matched with a residency program

The University of Texas at Tyler Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy achieved a 100% residency match rate—giving it the highest residency match rate among pharmacy schools in Texas and across the nation. A total of 26% of the graduating class applied for a pharmacy residency and matched.

“Pharmacy residency programs offer advanced post-graduate training that can open doors to positions in hospital systems, healthcare leadership, academia, or specialized fields such as oncology, psychiatry, infectious diseases, and critical care,” said Dr. Pamella Ochoa, interim dean of the Fisch College of Pharmacy. “While not required for all pharmacy careers, securing a residency is a key next step for many pharmacy graduates, allowing them to advance their knowledge and skills in direct patient care, practice management and research beyond that of pharmacy school.” Demand for these positions far exceeds availability, making the match process highly competitive, she added.

Students hoping to match often strengthen their applications by pursuing leadership roles, maintaining strong academic performance, and preparing for intensive interviews that can last several hours and include clinical case work and formal presentations.

“Matching to my residency was the ultimate display of the hard work, support from the faculty and staff, and dedication that went into my time at the UT Tyler Fisch College of Pharmacy,” said Alanna Kologey, a fourth-year student. “I feel blessed to have had the clinical guidance and mentorship to aid me in this process and provide a firm foundation for the next steps in my career.”
