Dr. Gerald R. Ledlow, professor in the Department of Population Health Leadership
and Analytics at The University of Texas at Tyler School of Health Professions, has served as an American College of Healthcare Executives member for more than
30 years and an ACHE fellow for more than 18 years—one of the highest distinctions
in health care management.
“Dr. Ledlow’s career exemplifies the values we strive to instill in every student—excellence, service and leadership,” said Dr. Theresa Byrd, School of Health Professions dean. “His continued contributions to health systems education make him an extraordinary asset to our faculty and a powerful mentor to the next generation of health care leaders.”
Ledlow is a board-certified EMT who has been ACHE board-certified since 1995. A decorated U.S. Army Medical Service Corps veteran, Ledlow held health care and logistics leadership roles in military health care operations, including Operation Just Cause in Panama and NATO and UN-led operations in the former Yugoslavia. He later served as the Sisters of Mercy Health System corporate vice president, helping them rank among the top 10 U.S. hospital supply chains.
Upon joining the UT Tyler Health Science Center in 2016, he served as a professor; founding chair of the Healthcare Policy, Economics and Management; associate dean of academic affairs; and dean of the former School of Community and Rural Health.
“This is not just a personal milestone,” said Ledlow. “It’s a testament to the mission-driven work we do as educators, researchers and leaders in health care. I’m proud to be part of a program and profession that prioritize service, systems improvement and preparing future leaders.”
Currently serving as the International Chair of the Healthcare Supply Chain Standards Board, Ledlow has authored ten books—including five widely used textbooks—and over 70 scholarly works. His published work includes a three-volume series on communication, preparation and response to terrorism for health care systems, public health organizations and emergency preparedness professionals, and a health care leadership textbook that earned a five-star Doody’s Review—the highest possible rating from one of the most respected evaluation services in medical and academic publishing.
