UT Tyler Names New Cowan Center Executive Director

The University of Texas at Tyler has named Ryan Poynter the new executive director of the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. Poynter comes to UT Tyler from Eastern Kentucky University’s Center for the Arts,
where he served in numerous positions for 13 years, most recently as senior director
of business operations since 2022.
“Ryan brings a wealth of experience to the Cowan Center that will help us engage new audiences, present outstanding artistic programming, and enhance our overall distinction and reputation throughout East Texas,” said Jeff Noblitt, UT Tyler vice president for marketing, who continues his leadership role with the Cowan Center. “Ryan’s commitment to serving community and student stakeholders aligns perfectly with UT Tyler’s mission and strategic plan.”
As Cowan Center executive director, Poynter will work closely with the Cowan Center Advisory Board and partners to present engaging arts, entertainment and educational programming. He will also focus on overall operational excellence for the 2,012-seat venue.

Poynter holds a Master of Public Administration in community development and a Bachelor of Arts in public relations, both from Eastern Kentucky University.
