AMS Citation Style Guide (American Mathematical Society)
Overview
The AMS citation style is used in mathematics and related disciplines. It offers two systems:
- Numbered References: Uses bracketed numbers corresponding to a numbered reference list.
- Author-Year Citations: Uses the author's last name and year in parentheses.
In-Text Citations
- Numbered References: The theorem was first introduced [1].
- Author-Year Citations: This method is detailed in Smith (2020).
References
- Numbered References: Listed in citation order.
- Author-Year Citations: Listed alphabetically by the author's last name.
- Book: Smith, J. Advanced Calculus. 3rd ed. Cambridge University Press, 2018.
- Journal Article: Brown, R., Taylor, M. Solutions to Diophantine Equations. Math. Comp. 50 (2020), 123–145.
- Conference Paper: Doe, M. New Applications of Algebraic Topology. In Proc. AMS Annual Meeting, 45–60. AMS, 2019.
Formatting
- Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt.
- Spacing: Single-space within entries; double-space between entries.
- Margins: 1-inch.
- Indentation: Hanging indent for references.
