AMS Citation Style Guide (American Mathematical Society)

Overview

The AMS citation style is used in mathematics and related disciplines. It offers two systems:

  1. Numbered References: Uses bracketed numbers corresponding to a numbered reference list.
  2. Author-Year Citations: Uses the author's last name and year in parentheses.

In-Text Citations

  • Numbered References: The theorem was first introduced [1].

  • Book: Smith, J. Advanced Calculus. 3rd ed. Cambridge University Press, 2018.
  • Journal Article: Brown, R., Taylor, M. Solutions to Diophantine Equations. Math. Comp. 50 (2020), 123–145.
  • Conference Paper: Doe, M. New Applications of Algebraic Topology. In Proc. AMS Annual Meeting, 45–60. AMS, 2019.
