We are here for a mission: to embed the medical school within the community of East Texas, recruit students from the community to serve the community, develop research endeavors that address the specific health issues of our East Texas family and expand access to the highest level of healthcare available. We are here for a vision: to grow our medical school to continue to reduce the health disparities in our region and improve the quality of life for everyone.

Admission Requirements

Completed TMDSAS application
- Application
  - Deadline: November 1, 2024
College transcript(s)
- Minimum of 3.0 in last 30 hours of BCPM (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math) courses.
- TMDSAS will request official transcript(s) once admission has been offered.
MCAT
- Minimum score of 492 using the confidence cut-off.
- MCAT scores can be no more than five years old from your planned start date.
Essays
Letters of recommendation
- Minimum of 3 letters or 1 Health Professions Committee Letter/Packet with the option to submit one additional letter. Letters should come from individuals who know you academically or professionally (i.e. faculty member, advisor, mentor, supervisor, etc).
- Personal letters will not be accepted.

Completion of the Casper Situational Judgment Test (SJT) through Acuity

Prerequisite courses (TMDSAS Prescribed Course Listing based on school)
- Prerequisites must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.
- All prerequisite courses must be completed at an accredited U.S. or Canadian community college or university.
- AP and online credit and/or coursework for prerequisite courses is accepted. We encourage students to take traditional coursework.
  - AP credit will be accepted only if the school granting the credit lists the specific course(s) and number of credit hours granted per course on an official transcript.
  - Online coursework must be from an accredited institution.
- Prerequisites must be completed prior to matriculation.
- Pass/Fail Coursework will be accepted for prerequisites courses taken during Spring 2020 to Fall 2021 semesters.

Biology	11 semester hours are required, 2 of which must be labs
Physics	8 semester hours are required, 2 of which must be labs
Chemistry	12 semester hours to include one of the following course combinations: Two semesters of Organic Chemistry and one semester of General Inorganic Chemistry (for a total of 9 semester hours of lecture with 3 semester hours of lab). Two semesters of General Inorganic Chemistry and one semester of Organic Chemistry (for a total of 9 semester hours of lecture with 3 semester hours of lab).
Biochemistry	3 semester hours of Biochemistry
English	3 semester hours of composition-based English
Math	3 semester hours of Statistics

2024 - 2025 Application Timeline

UT Tyler School of Medicine accepts applications from May 1 to November 1 through the Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS). Below is a month-by-month timeline on what candidates can expect while working through the application process.

May 1: 2024-2025 Application opens via TMDSAS
May 15: Application submissions open on TMDSAS.

June 2024

UT Tyler SOM will begin inviting applicants to complete the secondary application.
Completed applications are reviewed in a timely and ongoing fashion.

July 2024

Completed applications are reviewed in a timely and ongoing fashion.

August 2024

Interviews season begins.
Aug. 13: In-person interviews.
Aug. 30: In-person interviews.

October 2024

Oct. 8: In-person interviews.
Oct. 15: In-person interviews.
Oct. 26: In-person interviews.

November 2024

Nov. 1: Deadline to complete the primary application in TMDSAS.
Nov. 13: First round of Pre-Match admissions offers announced.
Nov. 14: In-person interviews.
Nov. 14: Casper and Duet from Acuity Insights deadline.
Nov. 15: UT Tyler SOM deadline for completing:
- Submission of MCAT scores.
- Secondary Application.
- Submission of Letters of Recommendation.
Nov. 19: In-person Interviews.

December 2024

Dec. 5: In-person interviews.

January 2025

Jan. 10: In-person interviews.

Jan. 29: Second round of Pre-Match admissions offered made.
Jan. 31: Submission deadline for student ranking of school preference list.

February 2025

Feb. 14: TMDSAS Match Day.
Rolling Admissions period begins.
Accepted Applicants receive pre-matriculation information.

March 2025

Accepted applicants receive pre-matriculation information.

April 2025

April 30: Applicants with multiple offers must decide which program to attend and withdraw from other schools.

May 2025

May 15: Last day an applicant can be called from a waitlist of a higher-ranked Texas medical school.
Date TBD: Spring Preview (Invitation Only Event for matched/accepted applicants).
2025-2026 Application Opens via TMDSAS.

June 2025

Applicants may be selected from the waitlist up until the beginning of Welcome Week (June 25-29, 2025).
