Thank you for your interest in attending the UT Tyler School of Medicine!

We are here for a mission: to embed the medical school within the community of East Texas, recruit students from the community to serve the community, develop research endeavors that address the specific health issues of our East Texas family and expand access to the highest level of healthcare available. We are here for a vision: to grow our medical school to continue to reduce the health disparities in our region and improve the quality of life for everyone.

  • Completed TMDSAS application
    • Application
      • Deadline: October 1, 2026
  • College transcript(s)
    • Minimum of 3.0 in last 30 hours of BCPM (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math) courses.
    • TMDSAS will request official transcript(s) once admission has been offered.
  • MCAT
    • Minimum score of 492 using the confidence cut-off.
    • MCAT scores can be no more than five years old from your planned start date.
      • Last test date: September 12, 2026 (scores released October 13th)
  • Essays
  • Letters of recommendation
    • Minimum of 3 letters or 1 Health Professions Committee Letter/Packet with the option to submit one additional letter. Letters should come from individuals who know you academically or professionally (i.e. faculty member, advisor, mentor, supervisor, etc).
    • Personal letters will not be accepted.
    • Deadline: November 13, 2026

  • Completion of the Casper Situational Judgment Test (SJT) through Acuity
    • Deadline: Last test date accepted November 12, 2026
  • Prerequisite courses (TMDSAS Prescribed Course Listing based on school)
    • Prerequisites must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.
    • All prerequisite courses must be completed at an accredited U.S. or Canadian community college or university.
    • AP and online credit and/or coursework for prerequisite courses is accepted. We encourage students to take traditional coursework.
      • AP credit will be accepted only if the school granting the credit lists the specific course(s) and number of credit hours granted per course on an official transcript.
      • Online coursework must be from an accredited institution.
    • Prerequisites must be completed prior to matriculation.
    • Pass/Fail Coursework will be accepted for prerequisites courses taken during Spring 2020 to Fall 2021 semesters.
Biology 14 semester hours are required, 2 of which must be labs
Physics 8 semester hours are required, 2 of which must be labs
Chemistry

16 semester hours are required.

8 hours of General Chemistry, 2 of which must be lab

and

8 hours of Organic Chemistry, 2 of which must be lab
Biochemistry 3 semester hours of Biochemistry
English 6 semester hours of composition-based English
Math 3 semester hours of Statistics

 

UT Tyler School of Medicine accepts applications from May 1 to October 1 through the Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS). Below is a month-by-month timeline on what candidates can expect while working through the application process.
