Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine

Welcome to the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

This department intersects between academic, clinical operations, community collaborations, and research with the main goal of improving the health and wellbeing of workers in East Texas and beyond and helping provide a safer and healthier workplace for employees. Our mission is to provide excellent patient care, conduct education and research and provide community outreach. Our expert team is composed of diverse and multi-disciplinary faculty and staff engaged in a wide array of clinical, educational and research activities.

The Department collaborates with and receives funding support from external organizations, including the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the Department of Energy (DOE), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR).

Our department is now housed within the School of Medicine where we host the Southwest Center for Agricultural Health, Injury Prevention, and Education (SW Ag Center), interact with our sister Department of Preventive Medicine and Population Health, and have collaborations with the School of Health Professions, among several others.
