Faculty as Healthcare Providers PA Program faculty and administrators shall not serve as student’s healthcare providers and shall not provide personal medical advice or prescriptions. Emergency care may be rendered only to prevent loss of life, limb, or eyesight.
Student Health Records
Student health records are maintained by Student Health Services. The PA Program does not retain or access student medical records except as required for public or patient safety in accordance with HIPAA and University policy.
Student Health Insurance
All PA students are required to maintain continuous health insurance coverage for each academic session in which they have direct patient contact, including didactic laboratory experiences and Supervised Clinical Practice Experiences (SCPEs).
Students will be enrolled in the UT System Student Health Insurance Plan (UT SHIP) unless an approved waiver is granted based on proof of comparable external insurance coverage.
Students must submit proof of insurance or waiver documentation in accordance with University procedures. Failure to maintain required coverage may result in removal from clinical activities and/or inability to register for courses.

Student Health & One Stop Center
Students are responsible for independently completing all required health screenings, immunizations, tuberculosis (TB) requirements, and other required health compliance items, and for submitting documentation to the UT Tyler One Stop Center.
The One Stop Center reviews all submitted documentation, monitors compliance, and removes applicable holds once all requirements have been satisfied. The Physician Assistant Program relies on the One Stop Center's verification of compliance as confirmation that students have met all required health clearance requirements.
The One Stop Center/Student Health Services will notify the PA Program of any health issues that may affect public or patient safety, as permitted by applicable laws and University policy.
