Incoming Student Scholarships

Scholarships for Students Beginning Fall 2023

Incoming first year pharmacy students who have previously taken coursework at UT Tyler may apply for scholarships designated for returning students.  Applications for returning student scholarships are evaluated in late spring for the following fall semester. 

 

Free Tuition Program

This scholarship will cover 100% of tuition and fees for qualifying students.

The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) is offering scholarships for incoming and current students at the Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy. Incoming pharmacy students who meet GPA requirements may qualify for a 100% reduction of tuition and fees for their first year in the curriculum. Current pharmacy students who meet program requirements may also qualify for the 100% reduction. The scholarship is available on an annual merit-based renewal.

Qualifications for incoming Pharm.D. candidate students:

  • Minimum 3.5 GPA in all science and math courses
  • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • Meet all requirements of admission

Qualifications for current Pharm.D. students:

  • Minimum 3.75 cumulative GPA
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must be taking at least 12 credit hours per semester
  • No professionalism alerts
  • Provide 30 to 45 hours per semester of peer-tutoring or Fisch College of Pharmacy activities every qualifying academic year (such as assistance at recruiting events).

Fisch College of Pharmacy Horizons Award

The Horizons Award is a four-year scholarship totaling $10,000 available to incoming first year pharmacy students who have a minimum GPA of 3.25 in all science and math coursework and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.  

After eligibility criteria are met, scholarships will be awarded to interviewed candidates who accept an offer of admission until all Horizon Award scholarships have been awarded. When multiple candidates are eligible for the last available award, letters of recommendation and multiple mini interview (MMI) scores will be used to determine the recipient. Horizons Award recipients are not eligible for returning student or other incoming student scholarships.

UT Tyler Legacy Award - UT Tyler Students & Recent Alumni

The UT Tyler Legacy Award is a four-year scholarship totaling $20,000 available to UT Tyler students. Incoming first year pharmacy students are considered for the award if they have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all science and math coursework, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and they meet one of the three criteria listed below:

  1. Currently enrolled UT Tyler students majoring in biology, chemistry or biochemistry who will complete degree requirements before matriculation into the PharmD program.
  2. Currently enrolled UT Tyler students who complete at least 50% of prerequisite coursework at UT Tyler.
  3. UT Tyler graduates with a major in biology, chemistry or biochemistry. 
    1. Alumni who have been employed in healthcare or science-related fields for at least 50% of the time since graduation: UT Tyler degree needs to have been completed within 5 years of starting the PharmD program.
    2. Alumni who have been employed in healthcare or science-related fields for less than 50% of time since graduation: UT Tyler degree needs to have been completed within 3 years of starting the PharmD program. 

After eligibility criteria are met, scholarships will be awarded to interviewed candidates who accept an offer of admission until all Legacy Award scholarships have been awarded. When multiple candidates are eligible for the last available award, letters of recommendation and multiple mini interview (MMI) scores will be used to determine the recipient.  Legacy Award recipients are not eligible for returning student or other incoming student scholarships.
