Biography

Ms. Vanessa Joyner is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Communication at the University of Texas at Tyler. She is responsible for teaching design courses that include publications design, visual design, web design, brand identity design, and computer software applications.  

Before moving to Tyler, Ms. Joyner was a graphic designer for over 20 years with AT&T Yellow Pages in St. Louis, Missouri. She taught graphic design courses for five years as a lecturer at the University of Missouri St. Louis. Ms. Joyner has an M.F.A. in Art with an emphasis in graphic design from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She also has a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Missouri - Kansas City, focusing on painting.

Ms. Joyner initiated and wrote the proposal to bring a Graphic Design Minor to the University of Texas at Tyler. The proposal was accepted, and as of Fall 2014, the new Graphic Design Minor has begun. The students have received it well. 

She recently participated in the Hunger for Peace Visual Art Exhibition at the Tyler Museum of Art. This exhibition was presented at The 2014 Art of Peace Festival in Tyler. See write-up
