Biography
Ms. Vanessa Joyner joined the Department of Communication at the University of Texas
at Tyler as a Senior Lecturer in Journalism. She is responsible for teaching design
courses that include publications design, visual design, web design, brand identity
design and computer software applications. For the last three years she has also served
as Advisor for the UT Tyler Debate Team.
Prior to moving to Tyler, Ms. Joyner was a graphic designer for over 20 years with
AT&T Yellow Pages in St. Louis, Missouri. For five years, she taught graphic design
courses as an lecturer at the University of Missouri St. Louis. Ms. Joyner has an
M.F.A. in Art with an emphasis in graphic design from Marywood University in Scranton,
Pennsylvania. She also has a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art with emphasis in painting
from the University of Missouri - Kansas City.
Ms. Joyner initiated and wrote the proposal to bring a Graphic Design Minor to the
University of Texas at Tyler. The proposal was accepted and as of Fall 2014 the new
Graphic Design Minor has began. It has been well received by the students.
She recently participated in the Hunger for Peace Visual Art Exhibition at the Tyler Museum of Art. This exhibition was presented by The 2014 Art of Peace Festival Tyler. See write up.
