Biography
Dr. Abdelaziz teaches the medicinal chemistry content of the PharmD curriculum at FCOP, including an introductory course on the Principles of Medicinal Chemistry as well as the medicinal chemistry of several drug classes within the integrated pharmacotherapy courses. Her teaching experience also including mentoring students in several class, laboratory, and research settings. Dr. Abdelaziz is an active member of several professional associations, including the American Chemical Society, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and the American Society of Microbiology.
Her research area is centered around drug discovery in several fields, with a special focus on kinases enzymes’ role in cell biology. Research interests include the discovery and characterization of allosteric modulators, screening of chemical and natural product libraries, studying enzyme kinetics, mechanisms of inhibition, and discovery and analysis of protein-protein interactions in cellular networks.
Dr. Abdelaziz has participated in a multitude of service activities in several academic institutions, including serving as graduate student association president, participating in the Quality Assurance of Education Unit, and holding the chair position in FCOP Curriculum Committee, Admission Committee, and Curricular Revision Taskforce, as well as the UT Tyler Research Council. She holds the ACUE Certificate in Effective College Instruction, multiple certificates in research administration and science teaching effectiveness, and is a certified Team-Based Learning Practitioner. Among the awards she received are the Dean's Award for Excellence in Graduate Studies, the Graduate School Dissertation award, the Teacher of the Year award (2019 and 2025), the VCU 10 Under 10 Award, and the Peggy Cotter Award for outstanding early-career faculty.
