Grades 7-12 Certification with Education Minor

School of Education

The School of Education offers an Education Minor to prepare students for certification to teach in grades 7-12. To complete the 7-12 teaching certificate the undergraduate candidate must complete the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree that is appropriate for the designated teaching field. These requirements are located in the appropriate academic department. Admission requirements for candidates seeking 7-12 certification are provided in School of Education section Admission Requirements and on the School of Education Admissions website at http://www.uttyler.edu/education/undergraduate/admission.php.

Certification Options:

Teaching specializations and certification options are approved by the State Board for Educator Certification. Students pursuing baccalaureate degrees in appropriate fields may be certified to teach at the secondary level.

Secondary Specializations:

  • Chemistry (Grades 7-12)       
  • English Language Arts and Reading (Grades 7-12)
  • History (Grades 7-12)
  • Life Sciences (Grades 7-12)
  • Mathematics (Grades 7-12)
  • Physical Science (Grades 7-12)
  • Social Studies (Grades 7-12)

Degree Plans

Note:  Kinesiology and Music degree plans leading to EC-12 certification in those subjects have their own methods courses built into the degree plan and will therefore not be enrolling in the second Phase III course.
