Executive Health Care Administration MPA Program

Program Overview

The Executive Health Care Administration (EHCA) MPA Program is designed to meet the needs of the working health care professionals. The executive format enhances the opportunities for students to attend a five-day intensive week at the beginning of each semester and complete the remainder of the course work online. The program is cohort-based which affords better cohesion and retention among the students.

Students in the EHCA MPA program have diverse backgrounds including hospital administrators, managers, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, nursing facility administrators and consultants.  All students must have a bachelor or higher degree plus three years of work experience in the health care industry. Our students' health care experience varies widely which provides a great experience in itself.  All of our courses are 100% health care-focused which provides for better opportunities for advancement in the health care market.

Essential characteristics that distinguish the EHCA MPA program are both the academic and field experiences of the faculty. Faculty members have held positions such as: chief executive officer (CEO), chief operating officer (COO), chief financial officer (CFO), strategic planner, hospital marketer, health policy analyst and health care consultant. The EHCA MPA program is designed to maximize the transfer of knowledge between the students in each cohort.  Each of the 12 courses is taught by experienced health care professionals.

Admission criteria are strict and enrollment is limited to 25 highly qualified students. Students begin in the fall semester, complete 36 credit hours in 12 courses, and graduate 16 months later in December of the next academic year (four semesters in total).

Each semester consists of two components: an intensive on-site 5-day week followed by online exercises, lectures and examinations.

Students may be eligible to join UPD (Upsilon Phi Delta), a national honor society, depending on their GPAs. The EHCA (MPA) has its academic home in the Department of Social Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences.
