Hands-on Engineering Education Close to Home

Engineers build our world, from conceiving and planning buildings and infrastructure to developing new materials, devices and systems that power modern industries. As industries evolve in response to marketplace demands and growing interest in sustainability and alternative energy, innovative, driven professionals are needed in the East Texas region to fuel these developments and tackle new challenges.

To support the local economy, The University of Texas at Tyler trains the next generation of professionals and helps existing engineers advance their skills at the Houston Engineering Center. Start at another college before transferring to earn a Bachelor of Science in engineering from UT Tyler within four years while substantially saving on tuition costs. Community College Pathways to the Houston Engineering Center

Your journey begins at Houston Community College or another community college. After earning your associate degree, transfer to the Houston Engineering Center to take junior- and senior-level coursework for a Bachelor of Science in engineering from UT Tyler.

Partnering Community Colleges

The UT Tyler Houston Engineering Center partners with community colleges in the Greater Houston area to offer streamlined pathways to a four-year engineering degree.

Start With an Associate Degree

An associate degree in engineering will help you develop your skills. You’ll be introduced to engineering as a discipline and profession, receiving instruction in the application of mathematical and scientific principles to uncover solutions to practical problems.

Automatic Admissions to a Bachelor’s Program

Students admitted to UT Tyler are automatically admitted to the baccalaureate degree program at HEC. For transfer students, requirements to be admitted to the university are a 2.0 cumulative GPA and 30 completed credit hours. You’re advised to complete your application within a semester of transferring.

Undergraduate Advising

We want to help make your transition to The University of Texas at Tyler as smooth as possible. A UT Tyler College of Engineering adviser will meet with you to determine which prerequisite courses you need to enter the program.
