Dr. Marilyn Young, UT Tyler professor of management, has completed the 2014 Labor Market Analysis.

The research addresses characteristics of the labor market for businesses considering expanding or opening new facilities within Tyler and the Smith County area. Numerous aspects such as employment status, skills, commuting patterns, wages and demographic characteristics were examined.

The study was conducted October 2013 through March 2014 as a project for the Tyler Economic Development Council and is based on information from the U.S. Census 2010 estimates, American Community Survey, Texas Workforce Commission, Young’s 2011 Tyler Labor Market Survey and other sources. The summary and complete report may be found online at the Tyler Economic Development Council website.

This is the ninth edition since the first report in 1989.

Young was named Hibbs Fellow for her contributions to business and economic research. She also was the former director of the UT Tyler Small Business Institute and has conducted numerous economic development projects for other areas, as well as projects and seminars for both profit and non-profit organizations. Her primary teaching area is organizational behavior and leadership with current academic research interests in entrepreneurship and teambuilding.

She holds a master of business administration as well as a Ph.D. in management with minors in finance, marketing and economics, both from the University of Arkansas.
